May 17 was, of course, the penultimate phase of lockdown easing before Boris, hopefully, scraps restrictions altogether on June 21.
Since the 17th, music venues across Torbay have started their challenging journey of reviving local music scenes, as indoor, small outdoor and large outdoor seated events are permitted, under capacity based guidelines.
Local support for venues and musicians is as important as ever right now, as the music industry finds it feet again and helps to rebuild our local music scenes.
For the live music lovers out there, I’ve compiled a guide of some of the upcoming gigs happening around Torbay so that you can get back to watching the best local talent and music events.
Griffin Bar, Torquay
High energy covers duo The Furry Hat are back in local venues with their punchy renditions of popular songs. You can catch them at Griffin Bar in Torquay on Monday, May 31.
You can also head to Griffin Bar to see GT Band on May 29 and Band Random will be performing on May 30 at the Torquay venue.
As one of Devon’s most established bands, five-piece pop/rock band Skool Daze are gracing the DT’s stage with sets on Saturday, June 26, and Saturday, September 11, and also Saturday, December 18.
You can also see rock/pop trio The Dockneys at DT’s on Saturday, July 10, and duo Old School Rox on Saturday, August 7, at the bar.
Old School Rox cover a range of artists, including Fleetwood Mac, Joan Jett, Simon and Garfunkel and Adele.
Although not always local talent, The Foundry’s line-up for this summer is one you can’t miss.
Starting with a bang, the harbourside venue is welcoming a Chase and Status DJ set to its stage on June 26, followed by United Kingdolls from RuPauls Drage race UK on July 10.
The venue will also be hosting Young T & Bugsey on July 31, a Sigma DJ set on August 21 and Burn It Down festival with Dinosaur Pile Up headlining on September 11.
