Trailing early on, Torquay United picked themselves up to beat Southern League Tiverton Town in just the sort of competitive friendly that manager Gary Johnson would have wanted at Ladysmead.
Two goals by trialist striker Dan Holman brought the Gulls level with a rasping shot and then with a penalty to take the lead on the stroke of half-time.
And it was substitute Danny Wright who sealed United's third win in four pre-season games with a simple finish from Dean Moxey's cross 20 minutes from time.
It wasn't an easy night out for Johnson's squad, especially in the first 20 minutes and at the end, when a spirited Ambers side threatened to punish some less than convincing defending.
But United, with several bright individual performances adding to a series of galvanising changes in the second half, got the job done.
The starting XI included fit-again Tom Lapslie, Dan Martin and Jake Andrews, but it was a largely young and inexperienced line-up, and United were jolted out of their stride in the early stages.
Tiverton took a deserved lead in the 17th minute when Torquay-based former Yeovil Town winger Rogers cut in from the right and a 22-yard left-foot shot was destined for the top left-hand corner from the moment that he hit it…1-0.
It took United a good 25 minutes to get to grips with the game, but near-misses by Andrews, Holman and Lolos confirmed that they had taken control and they equalised in the 36th minute.
A counter-attack move between Andrews and Koszela found Holman on the left, and he cut back onto his right foot before hitting a screamer into the top right-hand corner which was every bit as good as Rogers' earlier effort…1-1.
Lapslie, recovering well from an early knock, also went close from long-range before Holman seized on a mistake in the home defence and was taken out by Town goalie Lewis Williams as he went past him.
Holman made no mistake from the penalty spot - bottom right corner…2-1 to United.
With five changes at half-time, United looked the part on the restart, Holman and Lemonheigh-Evans both going close and Keelan O'Connell also missing a great chance at the far post on a slick move between Martin and Lolos down the left.
But Tivvy weren't quite finished yet. Marcin Brzozowski had to make a couple of top-drawer saves, and ex-Gulls Academy defender Austen Booth headed wide when he should have scored, unmarked at the far post, on a set-piece.
But with several of their 'bigger guns' on the pitch, United tightened their grip in the 70th minute.
Lolos found Moxey overlapping on the left and, although Lemonheigh-Evans missed the low cross, Wright was there behind him to tap home…3-1
