Title racing heating up in D Division East

Torbay Weekly

On a weekend when the weather, not Covid-19, ruined almost all the planned programme Uplyme & Lyme Regis did a smash-and-grab job to set up a must-see top of the table showdown with Alphington & Countess Wear in the Tolchards Devon Cricket League D Division East.
Ambitious Uplyme have been chasing Alphington for most of the season, but they are in top form at the moment and they rolled over Feniton for 72 before beating them by eight wickets.
Jack Lamb-Wilson took 4-15 off six overs and Steve Batey 3-7 off two against Feniton, with Mark Batey (27no) and Tyler Wellman 22no to finish the job.
Under the league's new points-average system Alphington now lead with 18, from Uplyme 16.7, North Devon 2nds 14.92 and Sampford Peverell & Tiverton 14.6.
Alphington, who were rained off, head for the King George V field this Saturday, and a sizeable crowd is expected.
Only one game went ahead in the Premier Division - Exmouth bowled Exeter out for 96 and won by six wickets.
But all eyes there are now on Saturday's 2nd-v-1st duel between Sandford and Tiverton Heathcoat.
There are mid-table affairs between Sidmouth and Paignton at Fortfield and Bovey Tracey and Exmouth, but relegation fears will be in the air as Cornwood take on Exeter.
It's a big weekend in the B Division, where only a fraction of a point separates Thorverton (16.08) and leaders Ipplepen (16.11) before their match at Thorverton.
C Division East leaders Sidmouth 2nds travel to Shobrooke Park, while Exmouth 2nds take on Ottery St Mary at The Maer.
Fixtures for local clubs this Saturday include: Premier - Sidmouth v Paignton, Bovey Tracey v Exmouth; A - Seaton v Plympton, Budleigh Salterton v Abbotskerswell; B - Kilmington v Dartington/Totnes, Thorverton v Ipplepen; C East - Shobrooke Park v Sidmouth II, Whimple v Clyst St George, Exmouth II v Ottery St Mary, Exeter II v Upottery; D East - Uplyme/Lyme Regis v Alphington/Countess Wear, Chardstock v Barnstaple, Kentisbeare v Sidmouth III, Feniton v Clyst Hydon; G - Sidbury v Feniton II.
