Three heroes complete three peaks challenge

Torbay Weekly

Torbay fundraisers Lana Taylor, Jake Bolton and Nicole Allder have successfully completed the incredible three peaks challenge in 24 hours to raise money for Rock 2 Recovery, Rowcroft Hospice and the Breakthrough Transformation Trust.

Starting at 15.50pm, they began the climb up the tallest peak in the UK, Ben Nevis. The combination of darkness, heavy wind and rain made this a difficult start to the challenge.

Once completed, the intrepid trio took turns driving down to Scafell Pike through the night. Scafell was the hardest part as they had no sleep and Nicole sustained a leg injury which meant coming down the mountain took longer than planned. Nicole pushed on through the pain.

They headed to Snowdon realising they were over an hour behind. Nicole insisted Lana and Jake go ahead on Snowdon to attempt to complete the challenge on time.

Lana and Jake had to run the majority of Snowdon, completing the ascent and descent in only 2.5 hours. They made it exactly on the minute at 15.50pm, making it within the 24-hour period. Nicole was determined to complete the final peak and, despite her injury, completed the Three Peaks in 26.5 hours.

The sense of achievement was clearly evident, as Civil Servant Nicole said: “I’m so overwhelmed, three of the highest mountains in the UK and we climbed every single one.”

Lana, a young person’s core worker, added: “This was the toughest thing I have ever done and everyone’s messages and support really kept us going.”

RAF communications technician Jake said: “Doing the peaks individually is hard in itself, I’m just so proud of the girls for what they have achieved and they showed great mental toughness.”

Donations are still coming through even after the challenge. So far £1,160 has been raised and you can donate by visiting
