Stepping back in time with images from Torbay's past

Torbay Weekly

Step back in time with these wonderful images of Torbay in days gone by.

The streets of Torquay look busy in the image from Waycott's Corner in 1912. Instead of motor vehicles, horses and carriages and bicycles were the order of the day.

A similar mode of transport is shown in the image of Barewell Road from around 1900.

Torbay's proud history as a seafaring spot is shown in the picture of the crew of 'Collie', the first Brixham trawler said to have had an elliptical stern. This image dates from around 1913.

Torquay's seafront Pavilion and Princess Gardens are showcased in the 1913 picture.

And, finally, going further back in years to a lantern slide from the 1860s of Waldon Hill from Victoria Parade.

All of these images are supplied by Torquay Museum.
