There were Parkruns aplenty for Torbay Triathlon club members this week, perhaps with the three-discipline event season slowing down and thoughts turning to winter running events.

Dave Brown hit Teignmouth seafront by storm, taking the overall win with a 17:55 time.

Husband and wife team Darren and Amanda Francis both plumped for the Mount Edgecumbe route, with Darren taking third with a 23:22 minute run. No mean feat, considering Darren completed the Eden Project marathon the day after and only a mere week after London, winning his 50-54 age group in a 3:27:20 time.

Closer to home on the Torbay Velopark home circuit, the club maintained its impressive regular turnout, among which Naomi Flanagan deserves special mention as the first female runner and third overall, in 18:57, with Emma Jefferys and Cassandra Harrison close on her heels as the sixth and tenth placed female runners.

Lewis Cholerton was the first of the tri club gents, with an overall seventh place finish of 19:30.

The main event for many this weekend remained at the Torbay Leisure Centre and Velopark, as the Sportiva Torbay Autumn Triathlon brought sunshine for all the many marshalls, supporters, younger entrants and seasoned athletes alike.

Gary Burman took a commendable 3rd place overall out of 117 sprint tri entrants, in 51:25, but a special mention goes to the club’s new stars of 2021, first-timers Brenda and John Finney and Sally-Ann Reay, training partners in the ‘shuffle group’ as they call themselves and smiling all the way to their medal collections, finishing in 1:22:13, 1:16:56 and 1:25:17. Impressive and inspiring!
