Following a very quiet transfer window over the Christmas and new year period, I thought it would be interesting to research to find some of the players worldwide who will be out of contract at the end of the 2020-21 season.
It was surprising to find / reported that some of the top players in the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, and the Championship who will become available at the end of this season on a free transfer are rated as world class players.
The list below of an 11 starting players and six substitutes whose deals are set to expire at the end of this season on a free transfer, a situation I’ve not witnessed before in the football world :
OUT OF CONTRACT XI

It is concerning to find so many exceptional players out of contract at the end of this season.
Is this a sign of the times and the financial difficulties some of the top teams are facing due to excessive wage demands and commitment to long-term contracts?
Or is it the effect the coronavirus is having on our beautiful game?
Times are changing and clubs now more than ever need to plan carefully to safeguard their future.
Stay strong, stay safe and look after each other.
