Simon Mills opened up the long course season for Torbay Tri Club by racing Ironman UK in Bolton at the beginning of July.
As the only full course Ironman branded event in England, the race remains one of the most popular events for athletes endeavouring to tackle a long-distance triathlon, especially with many of the events being cancelled over the previous 12 months.
The 2.4-mile swim, followed by 112-mile bike section before taking on a 26.2-mile run is never going to be easy and to add to the experience, the course around Bolton is also renowned for its hilly terrain, ensuring the athletes are challenged mentally as well as physically.
Simon has been training hard for many months to be ready for the race and the consistent graft clearly paid off with an overall time of 13:26:17 placing him an impressive 59th in the male 45-49 category.
