A five-point lead at half-time wasn't enough to inspire Brixham against Weston Hornets, and the Fishermen's difficult season in the Tribute Rugby South West Premier Division continued with a 10-25 home defeat to the unbeaten visitors.

Brixham made good use of the Astley Park slope to score two tries and lead 10-5 after a first half in which 13 played 14 at one stage.

But second-placed Hornets, who remained on the pitch at the interval, scored two more tries of their own in the second half.

Brixham (11th) now go to mid-table Ivybridge, who beat Bournemouth away 41-29 at the weekend.

Torquay Athletic's Cornwall/Devon Division promotion credentials will be on the line when they travel to leaders Topsham this Saturday.

The Tics (4th) should be in good heart off the back of a 19-7 win over Tavistock at the Recreation Ground.

A penalty try at the end after two more by Aaron Graham and Lewis Harben (James Wood conversion) earned a win which leaves Torquay only five points behind Topsham, who won 24-0 at local rivals Withycombe.

It doesn't look as if there will be a local promotion challenge in Western Counties West, even from early contenders Teignmouth.

They dropped to fifth place after a 27-7 defeat at Truro, and it's the leaders, unbeaten Wadebridge Camels, at Bitton Park this Saturday.

Two Mike Sandercock penalties were all Paignton had to celebrate in an 18-6 loss at Bideford and, although

Newton Abbot did push Burnham-on-Sea hard in Somerset, the second-placed hosts still won 29-22.

Definitely looking like promotion material are New Cross in Devon One.

In a game switched to Kingsteignton, they clinched a potentially decisive 14-7 win over Exeter Athletic, their nearest rivals before kick-off.

The Five Lanes side now lead with 36 points, from OPMs (30) and Athletic (28).
