A new loan deal for AFC Bournemouth defender Sam Sherring remains an option for Torquay United as manager Gary Johnson tackles a major squad strengthening drive after the disappointment of Play-Off defeat.
The chances of centre-back Sherring, 21, returning to Plainmoor - he became a fixture in the side which reached the National League PO Final last season - rest with new Cherries boss Scott Parker.
But Johnson confirmed: "They (Bournemouth) know we are interested - we would love to take him back, and Sam would be fine with it.
"But the new manager must decide where he wants Sam to play, and that may take a little while."
The pace of change is increasing at Plainmoor, now that Johnson has returned from a short working break and after the Government's lifting of Covid restrictions on crowds at matches next season.
This week's new deals for midfielders Jake Andrews and Armani Little brought the number of players re-signed to ten.
Johnson released eight more after the PO Final. Lucas Covolan and Kyle Cameron then left for Port Vale and Notts County respectively, and it seems likely that reserve goalkeeper Shaun MacDonald and winger Ben Whitfield will also turn down new contracts.
Winger Aaron Nemane is still mulling over his new offer.
Goalie James Hamon has also returned to Truro City after his loan, and Johnson, who met three players in the first 24 hours after his return from holiday, revealed: "We have two new goalkeepers in mind."
Negotiations with several other players are well advanced, and Johnson is looking to make around eight new signings, permanently and on loan, before the start of the 2021-2022 campaign on August 21.
The National League fixtures have just been released (go to www.torbayweekly.co.uk) and a full pre-season friendly programme, which is expected to include Plymouth Argyle at Plainmoor on July 31, will be announced any day.
United's next annual meeting will be held on Friday, July 23, but via 'Zoom' despite this week's Government announcement.
