Torquay cycle racer Harrison Wood is in advanced talks over a return to French semi-pro club AVA Aix-en-Provence as a final step towards a hoped-for contract with a WorldTour team.

Wood, 21, has spent the last two years with Dutch development squad SEG Racing Academy, and he has just started the prestigious Ronde de L'Isard stage race in southern France in their colours.

But SEG are dropping down from UCI Continental competition in 2022 and Aix, who are staying at that level, are keen to have former Mid-Devon CC starlet Wood back after a strong season with them in 2019.

The talented climber, supported by the Dave Rayner Fund for young GB riders trying to forge pro careers, said: "I've been talking to Aix about a leadership role with them, which would be great for my chances of a full pro deal in 2023."
