Share your success and celebrate all that is good in Bay

The Building a Greater Torbay campaign is all about celebrating our success and striving for more investment, more visitors and more variety in the businesses we can support and host.

TDA is Torbay Council’s Economic Development Company set up to deliver Torbay Council’s economic development and regeneration services. Social purpose is our guiding principle, to deliver economic development, physical regeneration and business growth in Torbay for the benefit of our businesses, residents and visitors.

We are proud to be part of the ‘Building a Greater Torbay Campaign’ working together and united with our partners to deliver a new future; celebrating and recognising all positive activity in the Bay.

We drive and enable ambitious, high-quality developments that provide positive outcomes and results for Torbay, for local businesses and for residents; as well as enabling businesses to relocate to the area, creating jobs and private sector investment.

A series of successful funding bids are driving economic regeneration across Torbay. This includes £21.9m of Town Deal funding, which will see many projects being delivered across Torquay, including public realm improvements on the Strand, a new train station at Edginswell and securing the future of the Pavilion.

A further £13.36m of Future High Streets Funding will kickstart the exciting transformation of Paignton town centre, with planned infrastructure improvements, new homes and an enhanced cultural offer. In addition, Station Square, Crossways and public realm improvements will further help stimulate and unlock private sector investment.

Funding secured through the Government’s Getting Building Fund will create new high value jobs for Torbay’s residents. Edginswell will see investment from a leading medical technology company, and new light industrial units at Lymington Road will support smaller businesses on their next stage of growth.

The £2m Unlocking Growth Fund, from the Heart of the South West LEP, supported the development of Claylands in Paignton, creating a new 60,000 sq. Ft. unit to meet the growth of Castings Support Group, a leading local advanced manufacturing company as part of their ongoing expansion plans. This will bring additional jobs and apprenticeships for our younger people.

A regeneration scheme for Brixham is in the early stage of development and this too will see new jobs being created for the town.

TDA, through its subsidiary Enterprise South West, also deliver business support packages, expert one-to-one advice, business planning, mentoring, development workshops and an ongoing series of networking events. An extensive business start-up programme also supports local people to bring their ideas to life helping them to set up their own business.

We facilitate, and in some cases manage, purpose-built workspaces, including innovation centres, enterprise centres, bespoke workspace and flexible office space. On behalf of Torbay Council, we operate a dedicated Electronics and Photonics Innovation Centre (EPIC), the home of the ever-growing Torbay Hi Tech Cluster, attracting international businesses who want to benefit from the local expertise and wider hi-tech ecosystem in Torbay.

Hi Tech companies from as far afield as the US, Turkey, Netherlands, Denmark and India are showing an interest to join our internationally recognised cluster and expand their UK footprint here in Torbay, joining many other successful global businesses located here.

We help to deliver work and training programmes which address skills gaps, create jobs and opportunities and support local business growth. Working closely with our key employers, training providers and leading industry groups, we have enabled new industry developed training programmes in Photonics, Fishing and Tourism.

The development of a new Economic Strategy for Torbay is now underway. This will build upon the regeneration activity already taking place and aim to accelerate economic growth across Torbay.

We fully support the ‘Building Torbay Campaign’ and encourage you to look at how you can support and share your successes to help celebrate everything good that is happening across Torbay.
