Rotary Clubs across the Bay have sprung into action to aid the Ukraine crisis.
As well as the sterling work carried out by members of the Tormohun Rotary Club who are currently transporting a huge collection of clothes and humanitarian aid direct to the war-torn areas, Paignton and Brixham Rotary Clubs have been holding street collections to raise much-needed funds.
This Saturday you will find Rotarians out and about once again in Victoria Street in Paignton between 10am and 4pm, continuing their fund-raising efforts. All monies are submitted to the Rotary Ukraine Appeal.
President of Brixham Rotary Club, Chris Bryson, said: “It was pleasing to see so many of our members out with collection buckets in the town, with the people of Brixham showing their amazing generosity for this cause to assist the displaced citizens of Ukraine.”
He added: “Brixham Rotary is also arranging a concert on April 23 at the Brixham Theatre and performers - The Darkside of Pink Floyd - will be performing at no charge. This joint venture on St George’s Day, between Brixham Rotary and Brixham Theatre, will make a huge contribution to our fundraising for Ukraine.”
Tickets cost £20 each and are available from the Brixham Theatre.
So far, Brixham Rotary Club have delivered around 100 bags of clothes and a lorry is set to leave Exmouth for Moldova this Sunday, arriving at its destination one week later.
Meanwhile, the latest mountain of donations collected by Tormohun Rotary Club, spearheaded by Rotarians David Rowe and Alan Dommett, have now been moved to a collection point in Plymouth in two large transit vans.
As the collection centres are currently full, the plea now is for cash donations only. You can donate through a number of different channels. In Torquay, you can submit your donation to the Pandora shop or Conroy Couch in the town centre.
Alternatively, you can visit the Devon Garden Machinery at Kingskerswell. Online donations can be made via BACS – Sort: 40-44-22 Account: 51225138 Ref: Ukraine.

The Rotary Club of Torbay Sunrise have donated £600 to this appeal. President Daniel Boatwright said: “When disasters destroy homes, shelter is essential. Shelterbox chooses exactly the right aid, providing items that save lives and rebuild homes.”
