Flashback to the blaze

Operation to raise sunk yacht from harbour under way

Torbay Weekly

Work is underway to remove the sunken yacht ‘Rendezvous’ from Torquay Harbour.

Since the incident on Saturday May 28, Tor Bay Harbour Authority have been working with marina company MDL and the appointed wreck removal company on the salvage operation.

All required vessels and equipment were due to arrive in Torquay on Monday evening.

Divers have been in the water to make the final preparations for the salvage operation to begin.

It was anticipated that the removal of the remaining fuel and the lifting of the vessel would commence on Tuesday. Subject to weather and unforeseen circumstances the lift was due to be completed by today (Thursday).

Princess Pier remains closed and only essential personnel will be granted access.

Once the salvage operation has been safely completed, repairs to Princess Pier will begin and once safe to do so, Princess Pier will reopen to the public.

All salvage works were weather dependent and are therefore subject to change.
