The battle against the pandemic for Torbay's tourism and hospitality industry has led to a top award.

The English Riviera BID Company and TDA were very proud to receive the award for Outstanding Contribution to Tourism at the recent South West Tourism Awards.

It was in recognition of the work they had done in both lobbying the government and supporting local tourism businesses throughout COVID-19.

Working alongside colleagues from Devon, Dorset, Cornwall, Exmoor, Somerset, the Heart of South West LEP, South West Tourism Alliance and the South West Business Council, the new Great South West Tourism Partnership was quickly formed immediately after the start of the first lockdown.

The group met every week to agree priorities and the actions they were going to take to support the hospitality Industry, as a result of direct discussions with government and in particular with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and VisitEngland.

ERBID Company chief executive Carolyn Custerson said: "None of us will ever forget the challenges that three lockdowns, a ‘Pingdemic’ and a recruitment crisis presented to our industry but by working together we were a loud voice for the sector.

"Now we all need to focus on long term recovery."
