Torquay’s town centre open air market is back.
The popular market has made its return to Lower Union Street after lockdown restrictions were relaxed.
Run by the Torquay Town Centre partnership, like last year it is due to run every Thursday, Friday and Saturday through to mid September then reverting to every Saturday through to Christmas.
When the Government relaxed the rules on markets, organisers put an action plan together quickly in a bid to rejuvenate the town centre and bring back footfall.
The go-ahead was agreed in principle on June 30, subject to fulfilling the paperwork trail including all Covid-19 safety requirements with Torbay Council.
Organisers have praised Torbay Council officers for helping turn the necessary agreements in such a short time.
A spokesman said: “Our first day was buzzing with excitement from the traders and public embracing our return .
“Full government guidelines are being followed to give the public secure health and safety measures.”
