Paignton-based social care providers Bay Care Group have won a special award that recognises their hard work and commitment during some of the most challenging and demanding times in the pandemic.

The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events across the UK that celebrate excellence across the care sector.

The purpose of the awards are to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

The awards are all inclusive, bringing together the statutory, independent, and voluntary sectors, as well as unpaid carers; promoting joint working.

Working in partnership with care partners and local care associations is at the heart of the initiative; working and linking directly with local managers and networks to further promote the event.

At this year’s Great British Care Awards ceremony held at Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol, Bay Care won the special Social Care Covid Hero Award for the work carried out by its specialist team of care workers set up at the beginning of the pandemic.

The judges highlighted: “The Bay Care Group’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic was second to none.

"Bay Care's Covid care team provided invaluable support to the NHS and many care homes with staff working tirelessly and selflessly to provide much needed care to the people of Torbay.

"Extensive efforts were made to ensure that there was sufficient PPE for staff, some of which was donated to other care providers, and staff showed immense dedication and compassion to the care they provided throughout the pandemic. This team are true Covid heroes.”

Bay Care director Katrina Green said:  We were very humbled to be nominated for this award, as there were and still are many others fighting on the frontlines of this pandemic, right across the South West and beyond.

"We were simply playing our part, so we are all heroes in this, and the fight goes on.

"However, I am truly delighted that we have received such recognition from the wider social care sector in the region.

"Winning the Covid Hero Award serves as a massive endorsement of the work our dedicated staff and the personal sacrifices they have made for the benefit of others. I am so proud of them – they are diamonds, as well as heroes."
