The Torbay Food Alliance has thanked the people of Torbay for supporting a Festive Food Appeal - but the battle to make sure nobody goes hungry at Christmas goes on.

An Alliance spokesman said: "We would like to say a big thank you to the generosity and kindness of the local community and Torbay Weekly readers.  Together we can support and help to turn the tide for those who are currently in a difficult place. Many thanks and for your continued support."

Donations for Feed a Child is required. Feed a Child Torbay works with primary schools and early years providers to distribute non-perishable "meal kits" to families who could use some extra help during school holidays. It started in 2017, driven by recognition that three children out of every 10 in Torbay experience hunger because there is not enough money to buy the food they need.

Families do not apply for help, but are identified by the pastoral care/family support tutors at each school. For our meal kits, they can always use: pasta, rice, tinned potatoes, instant mashed potatoes, tinned fruit, tinned rice pudding, tinned evaporated milk, baked beans, tinned tomatoes, pasta sauces, tinned meats (corned beef, pork), tinned vegetables (peas, carrots, sweetcorn), tinned tuna, tinned hotdogs, tinned meatballs, tinned chili con carne, tinned mild curry, tinned stew, tinned chicken.

Drop off points for food donations are:4 Ebenezer Road, Paignton, TQ3 3RL; and 6 Orchid Way, Torquay, TQ2 8JB.

A Christmas Shoe Box appeal has gone out from PATH, a charity which supports the homeless in Torquay (Vanillia Pod 172 Union Street) Their shoe box/back pack survival Christmas kit each one contains: Toilet paper, tooth brush, toothpaste, flannel, tissues, wet wipes, socks, gloves, hat, scarf, deodorant, hand gel, Vaseline, biscuit, choc bar, Christmas card with stamps, pen, torch, soap and soup box, nail clippers, lip balm, hand creams.

Donations are still welcomed to ensure that people have food at Christmas at the other Food Banks in Torbay Food Alliance.
