The reach of the Torbay Weekly has extended to national radio - the producer of TalkSport show Hawksbee and Jacobs just happens to a lover of the Bay.

John Cadigan can trace his roots back to Brixham and, despite living four hours away, his passion for Torquay United remains undimmed, including a regular mention on TalkSport.

“I actually grew up in Milton Keynes but my family all come from Brixham, so we would come down every school holidays, long weekends, Christmas, whenever we could,” said John.

“When you live outside the Bay, you certainly never take such natural beauty on your doorstep for granted. Growing up in Milton Keynes, probably the most landlocked part of the country, it was such a different world coming to Torbay.

“My passion for Torquay United came from my uncle, who went to school with Mark Loram, and he invited me to Plainmoor as a six year old. It was a narrow win over Scarborough at the end of August and I was absolutely hooked.

“It was the first professional sport I had seen and we got to Wembley in the play-offs that season.”

And now the keeps John up to date with his Riviera news.

“Sometimes, it is hard to believe you are being paid to chat about sport,” said John. “I’ve had the honour of sharing an office with people like Harry Redknapp, Sam Allardyce, even Wayne Rooney came in for a show. However, my best studio guest was Leroy Rosenior, no question about it.

“If you love sport, this is the best job, second only to Dave Thomas, who gets to watch the Gulls for a living.

“Subscribing to Torbay Weekly has been brilliant for my TUFC fix and keeping up with all things in the Bay. It is a great read and so many wonderful stories from a beautiful place.”
