Seb Campbell has broken a special record to become the youngest ever goalscorer in the long history of Plymouth Argyle Football Club.

The former student at Coombeshead Academy in Newton Abbot has been a part of the Pilgrims’ youth system for a number of years, and was always seen as one of the brightest prospects at Home Park.

That promise is now coming to fruition in spectacular style, with Campbell emerging from the bench to score a fabulous goal in Argyle’s 6-2 win over Tottenham U21s in the EFL Trophy, a goal that made history as the youngest ever Pilgrim to hit the net at the age of 16 years and 279 days.

“It’s a really proud moment for him, for his family, and a proud moment for us as a staff,” said Argyle boss Tom Cleverley. “I’ve been really impressed with the standard of the Academy players coming through.

“Nance [coach Kevin Nancekivell] said there was a 16 year-old we should be looking at and Seb now trains with us every day. He’s settled into that really well and the lads have accepted him, which is when you know you’ve got something.

“He’s got a good attitude, very low maintenance and another one who, under our guidance, should have a very bright future.”
