The new beginnings for Torquay United Women enjoyed a powerful start, as manager Ryan Perks took control of his first game with a 11-0 demolition of Teignmouth Ladies in a pre-season friendly at South Devon College.

The Gulls took early control of proceedings, with Rebecca McMullin bagging an impressive hat-trick in the opening 23 minutes. It proved to be an early masterstroke from Perks, previously manager of Plymouth Argyle Ladies, as he deployed midfielder McMullin in a new role as striker.

Not satisfied with a treble, McMullin added a fourth with a header before half-time. Emily Elliot also notched a first-half hat-trick and a Jasmine Barker penalty gave United a hefty 8-0 lead at the break.

Perks turned to a group of trialists after the break, one of whom executed a lovely lob to inflict more pain on Teignmouth, who, to their immense credit, kept battling hard despite the tough scoreline.

Another trialist hit the net before McMullin rounded off a powerful performance with a late volley. While the opposition will obviously get a lot tougher in the weeks to come, it was still a very pleasing start to the Ryan Perks tenure as TUFC Women’s team manager.
