The summer jumps continue at Newton Abbot on Tuesday evening with a seven-race card, featuring a combination of handicaps, maidens and novices over both hurdles and fences.

An amateur jockeys’ handicap hurdle is up first (5.57) over two miles and one furlong. A useful point-to-pointer, Gallant Geronimo wouldn’t be without a chance here given his good recent form in that sphere, and the youngest of the field - four-year-old Roadshow - looks likely to excel on his handicap debut for the bang in-form Paul Nicholls in first-time cheekpieces.
Race two is a juvenile maiden hurdle over two miles and one furlong (6.27). Most of the eight runners are converts from the Flat, while New Gold Dream and River Moon are both newcomers to the racecourse. The former has already had wind surgery, which isn’t particularly promising, and the latter wears a tongue strap for his debut, also discouraging confidence. Brian Hughes’ ride Return With Gold looks more tempting, while Blue Tempus could be a revelation over obstacles.
A novices’ hurdle follows over two and three–quarter miles (6.57). Chris Honour’s 10-year-old Time To Bite has been incredibly consistent over fences this year, but a heavy fall last time over course and distance provokes a confidence-inducing reversion to hurdles today and, his hurdle handicap mark being 10lbs lower than his chase mark, could be well treated. Ben Pauling’s horses have been running well lately, though, and it might pay to go with his capable mare Kill The Groove, who should take a good step forward from her first run over hurdles last time out when a little green.
The fourth race is an extended two and a quarter mile novices’ handicap hurdle (7.27). With some good recent form on display, this looks a competitive race, with the best recent performance brought to the table by John and Rhys Flint’s Privilege, who stayed on to be beaten by a relatively small margin over course and distance last time out. With the stable in good form, he should be able to win this and may only need to look out for Ghost Jury.
Next is a handicap chase over two miles and five furlongs (7.57). Limerick Leader was only beaten by a head over course and distance last time, and has been raised only a pound in the handicap since, so should be competitive but is the sort of horse who often hits the frame and rarely wins. Seamus Mullins’ 11-year-old Romanor should be due a win now having remained on the same mark for his last three runs, and can hopefully get his head in front this time.
The penultimate race is a lengthy three and a quarter mile handicap hurdle (8.27), which may be the most competitive race on the card. Dear Ralphy looks to be a strong candidate for the win, staying on the same mark as his last two runs and in the hands of top rider Sam Twiston-Davies. Keel Strand makes his handicap debut having won a novice race last time out in good style and should be a challenger again today.
Finally, a handicap chase run over three miles and two furlongs concludes the evening’s racing (8.57). Fit and proven from the point-to-point field, Testflight ought to be in contention, while Lucky Rose has slipped down the weights to a tempting mark ahead of today. Eightytwo Team might be able to get back to winning ways in this company, having won her second last start and followed that up with a respectable mid-field finish last time at Southwell.
