Paignton rowers back in training as Atlantic epic ends

Paignton Amateur Rowing Club have been busy preparing for the rowing season ahead.

Over the weekend, some of the skiff rowers and supporters undertook land training with a difference and competed in the River Dart Country Park Rumble.

It was wet, muddy and according to one of the junior members, “Too cold for life”, but the group had great fun!

They are now hoping to make this an annual team builder. So, who is up for 2026?

The final arrival of the World’s Toughest Row – Atlantic 2024 couldn’t have been more fitting with finishing on Valentine’s Day for a husband and wife team!

Bob and Nicky, married for 40 years, have shared countless adventures together. Though originally from the UK, they now proudly call New Zealand home and live aboard their sailboat.

They also created a new world record as the oldest mixed pair to cross any ocean finishing in 65 days, 12 hours and 50 minutes.

Thirty-eight ocean rowing boats with 110 ocean rowers representing 21 nations left San Sebastian de La Gomera on December 11. The race is a 3,000 mile unsupported rowing race across the Atlantic Ocean west from San Sebastian in La Gomera in the Canary Islands (280N 180W) to Nelson’s Dockyard in English Harbour, Antigua & Barbuda (170N 610W).
