Parker reaches 5,000 runs with a superb batting display
His place in the history of Barton Cricket Club, and Devon Cricket in general, is already assured but former skipper Adam Parker underlined his contribution to the club over the past two decades by reaching 5,000 runs with a sensational knock.
After many years as captain, Parker is now able to fully focus on his contributions with bat and ball, and the blistering 105 runs from just 60 balls on the weekend was a performance to savour.
Parker passed the big 5K milestone with a knock that included 15 fours and three maximums. He was ably supported by a delicious 101 from 90 balls by Tarisai Masakanda, as Barton posted a superb 313/6 at Cricketfield Road.
Visitors Chudleigh fell 132 runs short of the target and the maximum points leaves them second in the B Division and just 12 points behind leaders Cullompton with four games remaining.
The brilliance of Parker and Masakanda was mirrored across the Tolchards Devon Cricket League, with some of the best performers from a sunny Saturday listed below:
Sandford 3rd XI’s Jemima Vereker, who scored 127 not out and took 2-18 for Sandford 3s (in the G East win over Heathcoat IV.
John Meredith, who scored 103 for Clyst St George 2nd XI in the F Division East win over Newton Tracey
F P Duke of Stoke Gabriel 2nds, who carried his bat for 50no and took all three Cornwood wickets (3-29) to fall.
Tavistock 2nd XI youngster Nelson Stanley, whose four-wicket haul helped earn an 81-run win over previously unbeaten Chagford in the E Division East.
Josh Smalley, Topsham St James 2nds, 134 v Cullompton 4s.
Chris Palfrey of Culmlstock – three for nine and 74 runs in the two-wicket win over Exwick.
Chris Greenhouse 80 and 4/18 for Ivybridge Cricket Club 3s vs Ashburton 2nds.
