Grassroots rugby clubs and players are taking a well-earned rest from the rigours of a long season on the pitch but that doesn’t mean all activity stops, far from it!

Recruitment is on the agenda at Brixham Rugby Club, as the Fishermen look to welcome new players of all abilities to the men’s and women’s teams.

Brixham RC said: “Our club boasts top-notch facilities and experienced coaches. As we approach our 150th anniversary, we have exciting celebrations planned.

“Our teams, including the 1st XV, Crusader XV, and Brixham Albion XV (3rd XV), actively participate in league and county cup matches. Additionally, we are thrilled to announce that the Brixham Ladies XV (Sirens) will be returning to compete in the Warrior League.”

Contact the club on social media or call Dan on 07375 549615.

It is a similar story down the road at Paignton Rugby Club, where they have availability for girls, boys, women and men of all ages and abilities.

On Tuesday evenings, touch rugby sessions are being held at Clennon Valley, starting at 6.30pm, and these are open to adults and juniors, a great way to get the juices flowing again for a new rugby season.

On the professional scene, Exeter Chiefs finished their campaign in seventh in the Gallagher Premiership, winning ten of their 18 fixtures, while the Chiefs Women lost out on a place in the Allianz PWR Final after a defeat to reigning champions Gloucester-Hartpury.

Most rugby players will be taking a rest over the summer but that’s not the case for Exeter Chiefs trio Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, Ethan Roots and Henry Slade, who have been selected in the England Test squad for the summer series, which includes a match against Japan on June 22 and then a double-header with the awesome All Blacks of New Zealand.
