The Helliar family
Families take on London Marathon for charity
Devon sibling runners conquered the London Marathon and raised fantastic funds and awareness for the National Deaf Children’s Society.
Four siblings from the Helliar family took on the iconic event in support of the charity. Katrina, 36, Alex, 32, and Hattie, 30, from Woodbury, Exeter, were joined by their Sheffield-based brother Seb, 34, for the world-famous event.
The family hoped to raise in the region of £8,000 for the National Deaf Children’s Society. This will boost their total for a year’s worth of fundraising to nearly £25,000. They chose to run for the National Deaf Children’s Society because Seb’s son, Rupert, 2, was born deaf and his family has been receiving ongoing support from the charity.
Coincidentally, South Devon-raised Sue Small and her sister Sally Brooking were also competing in the same event and raising money for the same cause!
They’re running for NDCS because Sue’s daughter Natalie, now 15, was born deaf and the family had been supported by the charity. Sue, a Pilates teacher, currently lives in Northern Ireland with husband Nick and children Ollie, 17, and Natalie. Sally, who works in Torbay Leisure Centre, lives in Torbay with children Ella, 12, and Oakley, 8.
