Oldway winning Bee Netball team
Oldway Primary celebrates superb netball achievement
To win it once is a great achievement, twice is very special but a hat-trick of victories in any sporting event is a mark of ongoing excellence.
Oldway Primary School certainly fits into that category after their Year 5 & 6 netball team once again emerged as champions at the highly-competitive Bee Netball tournament held at Paignton Academy. This marks the third consecutive year that Oldway Primary School has claimed first place, showcasing their unparalleled skill and dedication to the sport.
The Bee Netball tournament, organised by England Netball and hosted by Paignton Academy Hub, saw participation from all three Riviera Education Trust schools, competing against each other and teams from other local Torbay schools. Shiphay Learning Academy, also part of the Riviera Education Trust family, secured third place in the tournament.
Oldway Primary’s team, comprising both girls and boys, exhibited exceptional teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Their stellar performance has earned them the opportunity to represent South Devon at the upcoming County finals scheduled to take place on March 20 at Paignton Academy Hub. The County finals is overseen by Jenny Kelly from England Netball.
Bee Netball is a vital initiative aimed at promoting mental well-being among children. Recognising the prevalence of mental health disorders, such as anxiety and depression among school-aged children, England Netball devised Bee Netball to address these concerns.
By providing a platform for children to participate in netball, forge friendships, and develop key skills such as inclusion and fair play, Bee Netball fosters a supportive and nurturing environment conducive to positive mental health.
Oldway Primary School’s continued success in Bee Netball is a testament to their commitment to excellence both on and off the court. As they prepare to compete at the County finals, they serve as an inspiration to aspiring young athletes and advocates for mental health awareness alike.
