It was eyes to the skies as Torbay Hospital was included in a Spitfire flypast celebrating the NHS.
Aircraft Restoration Company’s Spitfire PR.XI (PL983) performed the flypast of several NHS Hospitals on Saturday as part of a summer-long series of flypasts to celebrate the 72nd birthday of the National Health Service.
The Spitfire took off from Goodwood Aerodrome, and performed a flypast of several NHS hospitals with the message ‘Thank U NHS’ under its wings, before landing at Newquay Airport.
After the Torbay flypast, the Spitfire headed to hospitals in Plymouth, Tavistock, Bodmin, Truro, Falmouth, Helston, Penzance, Hayle, Camborne and then on to Newquay.
The day’s flying was part of number of different routes over NHS hospitals across the country throughout the summer. starting at Duxford Airfield in July.
