South Devon College has developed a new way for Torbay’s business community to reach out and stay connected.
The ‘South Devon Business Community’ has been launched – a platform to provide Torbay businesses with support, advice and key updates during lockdown.
The project has been led by Emily Tucker, head of apprenticeships and employer engagement at the college, who said: ”A number of the businesses that work with the college will need to reach out for moral support or a helping hand and this series of webinars will be the perfect place for them to do just that.”
The college has continued to grow the number of relationships with local businesses in recent weeks, working with around 1,000 employers and, as a result, bringing the number of apprentices studying with South Devon College to more than 1,700.
Emily will host a series of webinars using GoToWebinar featuring key panel members. Speaking about the interactive element of the webinar series,
Emily said: “The team at South Devon College is really pleased to be able to offer support to our partners in the local business community via this series of webinars.
“We will be encouraging employers and businesses to give us their feedback on each session so that we can continue to tailor the content to meet their evolving requirements as things develop over the coming days and weeks.”
The first webinar from Emily and the South Devon Business Community took place on Tuesday, April 21.
Speakers lined up were Laurence Frewin, principal and CEO of South Devon College; Sharron Robbie, director of Devon and Cornwall Training Provider Network; Keith Miller, managing director of Cavanna Homes, and Jonathan Holmes, group managing director of Blenheims.
Emily has been instrumental in helping the Torbay Business Forum launch weekly webinars called Breakfast Bytes where guest panellists are invited to meet chairman Steve Reynolds and talk about their organisations and topical issues. Council leader Steve Darling and Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez are among the latest guests.
