Alison Hernandez is a former Torbay councillor and now Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner. Here is why she welcomes the new Torbay Weekly:

“I support all forms of journalism and media, once winning a national award for my efforts on social media when I was an elected councillor in Torbay, but to reach all of our community you can’t beat the printed newspaper.

“So many people tell me they read my column in the newspaper, but they don’t say ‘oh I read your online blog’!

“To have a free newspaper is even better because it will reach the parts of Torbay where others don’t.

“The more opportunities to spread the word of what our great community are doing to ensure we stay Naturally Inspiring to others the better.”

“So many people don’t get the recognition they deserve or are able to inform us about important matters. I know many people still don’t know what a Police and Crime Commissioner does, yet I relentlessly communicate about it.

“So, another route to helping people understand the important work of my office to help keep us safe is very welcome. Good luck to the team at Torbay Weekly and I wish you every success for this new venture yet old idea.”
