Picture that speaks a thousand words

An award-winning photograph of a Torbay foodbank at the height of the first coronavirus lockdown has led to a donation of £500 for the Paignton Community Larder.
Photographer Beccy Strong was commissioned by the Torbay Community Development Trust to capture the struggle to keep vulnerable people across Bay from going hungry.
It was her shot of a lone woman preparing parcels at the community larder that caught the eye of the competition judges at the Devon Community Foundation.
The judges made it the runner up overall and said: “The competition guidelines were to seek out a celebration of community, and this is something they believe has been achieved with this photo. They found a story of a lone, faceless, nameless woman consumed in a task that, gleaned from the mass of items surrounding her, is selfless, long and tiring.”
Tracey Cabache, operations director at TCDT said: “We felt the photograph perfectly encapsulated the ongoing efforts of so many people.”
