There is no better place to live, work or visit than the English Riviera. That message has been spread far and wide, regionally, nationally and internationally, at train stations in London, buses in the Midlands and to millions of TV viewers up and down the land.

Torbay is Naturally Inspiring – and we want the world to know it.

There is no better place to live, work or visit than the English Riviera. That message has been spread far and wide, regionally, nationally and internationally, at train stations in London, buses in the Midlands and to millions of TV viewers up and down the land.

And it’s a message, ethos and mantra our new Torbay Weekly newspaper and website will adopt and promote from day one.

The new Torbay Weekly, your free weekly newspaper, will be officially launched in just a few weeks’ time with copies landing directly through the letterboxes of thousands of homes in the Bay. There will also be thousands of extra copies available at various pick-up points around the resort.

The theme running through our print and on-line content will be ‘Naturally Inspiring’ because that’s exactly what our beautiful Bay is.

Our unique environment and UNESCO Geopark status coupled with our inspiring people who do inspiring things is a magic mix.

Yes, we will cover some of the harder news stories and we will hold our local council and public bodies to account because that is what proper newspapers do.

But it’s not all doom and gloom out there. There are also many, many success stories so why not celebrate them?

The Torbay Weekly will be focussed on the community and being at the heart of the community. Going back to grassroots reporting with reporters who live in and love the Bay. With commercial teams who put relationships with their customers and clients at the forefront of all they do. With a base and office in the town centre.

Doing old-fashioned things in a modern way.

The ‘Naturally Inspiring’ brand comes from Torbay Together, a strategic partnership which brings the private, public, community and voluntary sectors together to give the Bay one voice in its bid for a more prosperous future including lobbying the government for vital funding.

The English Riviera BID Company has now adopted the ‘Naturally Inspiring’ logo as part of its latest marking campaign.

It budgeted over £450,000 on behalf of Levy Payers to promote the English Riviera with refreshed branding, including Naturally Inspiring as a new hook, to attract year-round visitors for 2020.

A TV Campaign was mounted. It was being complemented by an expanded programme of Bus Side Panel Advertising in Bristol, West Midlands and Reading as well as London underground poster advertising.

BID company chief executive Carolyn Custerson said: “It is wonderful news that a new weekly community newspaper is starting in Torbay that is pledging to focus on all that is great about the English Riviera.

“I am really looking forward to working with Jim Parker and his new team to continue to showcase the area as a leading UK resort attracting nearly five million people per year.

“With the exciting new branding Naturally Inspiring the English Riviera BID Company is investing over £500,000 a year to promote the English Riviera brand regionally, nationally and internationally including investment in National TV advertising, which has reached over 10 million people this January alone.

“Over 1,200 local tourism and hospitality businesses make up the English Riviera Business Improvement District with positive trends being reported in terms of business growth and importantly extension of season.

“With a value in excess of £500 million per annum the visitor economy continues to be boosted significantly by ongoing private sector investment, with many new exciting tourism products being delivered that will crucially extend our traditional tourism season, providing year-round jobs and year-round visitor experiences and raise our profile.

“Tourism is a very competitive global industry and it is vital that we continue to promote the resort professionally and in a coordinated way shouting about our exceptional natural coastal environment - Naturally Inspiring - and UNESCO Global Geopark status.

“We have so many USP’s to promote as hooks to attract visitors (both day and staying visitors) from all around the world, but we all need to work together in partnership and remain positive.”

A new era is about to dawn for the Bay. The Singapore-based Fragrance Group are ploughing £100 million into four new hotels in the resort. A new Hilton and Premier Inn are coming.

Established and new businesses are investing in the resort and our town centres in Torquay and Paignton could be in line for up to £40 million in government funding to breathe new life into the high street.
