Torbay MP Kevin Foster has welcomed news that Devon and Cornwall Police has been bolstered by an additional 98 officers since the Government launched its major recruitment drive last September.

He said: “Every one of these officers will make a difference in helping to cut crime and keep people safe across our region. As patterns of crime change and with challenges such as county lines facing Torbay, it is vital the police have the resources and the powers they need to keep our community safe.”

Since the start of the recruitment campaign, 4,336 extra officers have joined police forces across England and Wales.

In total since March 31, 2019, the police workforce has grown by five per cent – the largest annual increase in officer numbers since 2003-04.
