New Brixham auction scheme aims to boost town’s voluntary sector

Residents can donate goods and direct funds to their chosen not-for-profit organisation

New Brixham auction scheme aims to boost town’s voluntary sector

Brixham Future CIC has launched a new fundraising initiative aimed at supporting local voluntary and not-for-profit organisations.

The scheme, called Brixham Auctions, follows a pilot project held last year and is designed to raise money for community groups across the town.

A spokesperson said the organisation wanted to build on previous projects, including the Brixham Lottery, 14 town centre murals and major public events marking VE Day, D-Day, the late Queen’s Jubilee and the King’s Coronation.

They said: “We wanted to deliver a project that would help boost our wonderful local voluntary sector which is the beating heart of our community.

“Like everywhere else it would benefit from a boost in income to help deliver more outputs which already are amazing value for public money donated by local people.”

Under the scheme, residents are invited to donate portable goods or pre-loved items and nominate which local not-for-profit organisation they would like the proceeds to support.

The spokesperson added: “People may not have cash to donate to their favourite local cause, but sometimes have a few treasured possessions that can be turned into a donation.”

Items can be delivered to the Brixham Yacht Club on Friday 22 May from 12 noon to 4pm and on Saturday 23 May from 10.30am to 1pm. The auction will begin at 2pm on Saturday.

Organisers say the event will accept cash or mobile bank transfers. Successful bidders must take their purchases away on the day. Unsold items will not be returned unless collected by 4pm.

Brixham Future CIC is a not-for-profit community interest company run by local volunteers.

The promoter of the auction is John Brennan, who can be contacted via the organisation’s registered address in Brixham.
