Torbay hosts a variety of events throughout the year, each playing a vital role in enhancing the community's vibrancy and supporting its economy – including the aptly named Electric Bay music festival.

Such events not only enrich the cultural fabric of the area but also serve as significant economic drivers.

Torbay Council alongside their events partner, the English Riviera Bid Company, are proud to host and organise several marquee events that not only celebrate Torbay but also significantly contribute to the local economy.

Among the highlights are the spectacular English Riviera Airshow, Electric Bay and the enchanting Bay of Lights festival, all of which attract thousands of visitors and inject millions into our local businesses.

Councillor Jackie Thomas, Cabinet Member for Tourism, Culture and Events and Corporate Services at Torbay Council said: “Key events are the lifeblood of Torbay's economy and community spirit.

“They not only attract thousands of visitors but also provide essential support to local businesses and foster community pride.

“Our flagship events such as the English Riviera Airshow and the Bay of Lights Illumination Trail, showcase the best of what Torbay has to offer.

“Here at Torbay Council, we want Torbay to be a place to be proud of, where people of all ages want to live, work and visit. A place where everyone benefits from and enjoys a premier resort experience.”

Held annually, the awe-inspiring English Riviera Airshow draws over 100,000 visitors across the weekend and generates an estimated £5 million for the local economy.

Families and aviation enthusiasts from near and far gather to witness breathtaking aerial displays and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere along our stunning coastline.

This event not only shines a spotlight on Torbay but also provides a tremendous boost to hotels, restaurants, and local shops, keeping the local community thriving.

Electric Bay is fast becoming a summer staple in the Bay’s event programme, offering the chance to see world renowned music artists and soak up a beachside festival atmosphere.

The event attracts a younger crowd from across the South West, attracting new and future visitor audiences to the area.

The event organisers also rely on local companies and business to deliver the event, adding to the economy.

10,000 people are expected to attend Fat Boy Slim headlined event on Saturday July 12 as part of this year’s three day event. The event is worth £1.7m to the local economy.

As the days grow shorter the Bay of Lights arrives to light up Torbay with festive sparkle.

Last year’s Bay of Lights Illumination Tail attracted an astonishing 1.2 million visitors to Torquay’s iconic seafront.

This increased influx of people is a welcomed boost to tourism and hospitality providers during the shoulder season.  As such this captivating event amplifies opportunities for local businesses while offering our own communities a free, family-friendly festive experience to enjoy.

Moreover, events like these serve as a platform for showcasing the unique character and talents of Torbay.

By promoting local artisans, musicians, and companies, they reinforce community pride and encourage residents to invest in their own locality. The ripple effects of these events extend beyond immediate economic gains; they help to strengthen community ties and foster a sense of belonging among residents.

As such all these key events in Torbay are more than just dates on a calendar; they are crucial to the region's economic vitality and development. By appreciating and supporting these gatherings, it ensures that Torbay thrives economically.
