As the school holidays approach, families across Torbay are being offered an affordable way to keep children active and safe this summer.
Torbay Leisure Centre, operated by Lex Leisure, will run a series of five-day swimming courses throughout the summer break. Each course covers Swim England stages 1–4, providing a progressive learning journey for beginners and improvers alike.
With five-day blocks priced at just £10, the equivalent of £2 per lesson, the initiative is designed to address growing concerns around water safety and accessibility. Recent figures show that nearly a third of primary school leavers in the UK are unable to swim 25 metres unaided.
Centre Manager Ellis Gibbs said: “We recognise the value in improving access to swimming lessons, with these intensive courses providing an incredible opportunity to improve both water safety and swimming ability for less than the price of a cup of coffee. The summer holidays are the perfect time to become a confident swimmer!”
All lessons are led by fully qualified instructors and focus on developing core swimming techniques alongside vital water safety knowledge.
Lex Leisure, a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, reinvests profits to support those facing physical, mental or health-related barriers to staying active.
