Torquay path reopens during harbour regeneration

Further work may need to take place at a later date, however

Torquay path reopens after in harbour regeneration
Following months of work to regenerate Torquay's Harbourside, the walkway along the south side of the Strand is now open to pedestrians once more.
Starting back in October 2023, The Strand 'public realm project' involves giving the area a 'piazza'-style, market square touch with the landmark Clock Tower at the centre of the regeneration project.

Traffic flow will be reduced and buses and taxis moved away from the main waterfront area.

The scheme will eventually complement the plans for the former Debenhams store which is being demolished to make way for an apartments and food and drink development.
However, some businesses have complained that their taking have dropped dramatically since the works began due to lower footfall and traffic.
Torbay Council said: "We are thrilled to let you know that a walkway along the south (harbour) side of The Strand is now open.
"There is still some finishing work that needs to take place at a later date, but we hope visitors to the harbourside will enjoy the new pathway and see how the project is starting to take shape.
"One of the first pedestrians using the path commented 'It is very lovely'."
