Paignton’s Wetherspoons is set to become the ‘Talk of the Town’ once more after the pub began major renovations last week. The pub is set to reopen for the summer season in early May.

Rumours have circulating about the revamp the Torbay Road pub since 2022 after the neighbouring property and business, The Factory Bar, closed. A planning application was then submitted to Torbay Council in April last year.

The development, set to cost over £2 million, will add over 1,700 square feet to the pub by knocking through the wall to the adjacent building.

This will increase the capacity from 184 customers to 302.

The bar servery will be relocated against the back wall while the main entrance will be moved to the right-hand side of the pub. There will also be larger female toilets, a new staff room, and a new improved kitchen as well as fresh artwork, furniture lighting and carpets.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “The Talk of the Town has been a mainstay of Paignton’s social scene for a number of years.

“The investment in the new-look pub highlights our commitment to the pub, its staff and customers, as well as to Paignton itself.”

Since 2019, the Talk of the Town has been the only Wetherspoons pub in Paignton, after the Isaac Merritt on Torquay Road was sold.
