This giant tree came down and crushed a car in Torquay
Torrential downpours which soaked Torbay and South Devon today were expected to become less frequent overnight.
This giant tree crashed down in Torquay, although it may have happened before the heavens opened.
A car parked in Solsbro Road, Chelston, was crushed by the falling tree and a safety cordon placed around the accident area.
Flood warnings were issued by the Environment Agency but the Met Office in Exeter was predicting a drier and brighter Sunday.
They said showers would become increasingly isolated this evening, although a few would continue across parts of Devon and Cornwall into the early hours.
Long clear spells would develop allowing it to turn rather chilly in rural spots. Minimum temperature would be 5 °C.
They forecast that Sunday would be a drier day than on Saturday with all areas seeing some sunshine at times. Scattered showers are likely but some places will remain dry. It will be breezy but feeling a little warmer. Maximum temperature 18 °C.
The outlook for Monday to Wednesday is mainly dry early next week with a mixture of cloud and periods of strong sunshine. Lighter winds than of late and turning warmer.
