Torbay has a proud tradition of nurturing artistic talent – and this summer, four local artists are receiving national attention with their work selected for major exhibitions across the country.
All four are members of the Torbay Guild of Artists and have been chosen to show their work in prestigious exhibitions in London and Derbyshire.
Diannah Lowry, a contemporary artist from Torquay, has been selected to exhibit at the London Art Biennale 2025, one of the UK’s most respected international art events. She is one of just 300 artists chosen from over 60 countries.
“I’ve exhibited in other London shows before,” said Ms Lowry, “but to be selected for this prestigious exhibition is an absolute highlight for me in my career as an artist.”

The Biennale runs from 16 to 20 July at the Chelsea Old Town Hall, King’s Road, London.
Ms Lowry has also had work selected for the FLUX 12th Edition Exhibition in Marylebone, running from 17 to 20 July. She will exhibit alongside fellow Guild member Karine Jeuffroy, a contemporary artist from Goodrington and a recent addition to the Guild.
Becky Nuttall, from Brixham, current chair of the Torbay Guild of Artists and a former exhibitor at the Royal Academy of Art, has had work accepted for the Ordinary exhibition at The Old Lock Up Gallery in Derbyshire. The show runs from 15 June to 3 August.
Also heading to the capital is Peter Blakesley SWAc, an elected member of the South West Academy of Arts, who will be exhibiting at the Royal Watercolour Society in London from 18 to 24 July.
The national recognition is seen as a positive reflection of the thriving creative community in the Bay.
