Wollens law firm supports business awards amid national accolades

Torquay-based legal practice champions local enterprise while earning national recognition for excellence and sustainability

Wollens law firm supports business awards amid national accolades

Law firm Wollens recognises the importance and value of awards, and that is why their 'trophy' cabinet is brimming with cups, citations and certificates.

That is also why they were one of the first companies to sponsor and support the Torbay Weekly Naturally Inspiring Business Awards.

The firm, with a South Devon 'hub' on The Terrace in Torquay and also with offices in Exeter and Barnstaple, believes in recognising success and celebrating all that is good in South Devon's business community.

Accolades from their peers and their own clients are also a huge part of that South Devon success story and, just as importantly, a big boost for staff morale.

Practice Director Clive Meredith said: " We’ve had a long association with the business awards and it’s great to be able to celebrate excellence in business within the bay. We all work very hard to ensure we give the best experience to our clients, and when that’s recognised externally by independent judges, it’s a real encouragement and boost to all adding credibility and increased visibility to individuals and organisations.”

Wollens, one of the largest private practices in the South West employing over 150 people, offers exceptional expertise for businesses and individuals.

They say: "While we act for clients locally, our reach extends well beyond the region,  regularly advising clients across the UK and internationally. We continually strive to achieve the best outcomes for our clients, and this is backed by our service level guarantee – Excellent Service, Every Team, Every Time."

One of the latest awards has seen the Wollens win the Client Service Award earlier this year at the nationally acclaimed Modern Law Awards. Established in 2013, the Modern Law Awards, is a prestigious event that celebrates excellence and innovation within the legal industry. These awards are judged by a panel of esteemed legal trailblazers, and this event brings the legal sector together to celebrate the triumphs of all legal professionals within the UK, particularly those who are making invaluable contributions to a number of areas right across the sector.

Wollens says: "This recognition is a huge honour and a testament to the dedication, compassion, and expertise our team brings to every client we support.

Wollens put the client at the heart of all that they do and some top awards reflect that ethos.

The company is setting a new bar in the legal industry as it leads the way in Customer Experience (CX), becoming one of the first Law firms in the region to receive the coveted insight6 CX Excellence Mark.

It recognises businesses that consistently go above and beyond to put their customer at the heart of the business and signifies a seal of approval from the UK’s leading CX experts.

Practice Director Clive said: “Receiving the insight6 CX Excellence Mark is a real honour as the team works incredibly hard to ensure that we deliver the best for our customers at every level.

"Some companies assume that they are delivering a good experience if they don’t receive lots of complaints. However, through our journey, we have realised the importance of stepping outside to view the business independently and to proactively seek feedback. Even if you are doing things well, you may not appreciate the things that your customers value, or where you could make things even better.”

They are also shortlisted for  the Modern Law Awards Wills and Probate team for Team of the Year at the Modern Law Private Client Awards 2025. They said  "The awards ceremony takes place in Liverpool this July, and we’re already looking forward to celebrating the incredible work being done across the private client sector. A big thank you to Modern Law Awards for this opportunity—and to all our colleagues and clients for your continued support."

One of their biggest success stories has been achieving outstanding recognition in the 2025 Legal 500 with 10 practice areas officially ranked thanks to client satisfaction surveys and feedback.

CEO Chris Hart said: "We are incredibly proud to see our team’s hard work and dedication recognised in this year’s Legal 500 rankings.

“Being ranked in 10 different practice areas demonstrates the breadth of our expertise and the exceptional service we offer to our clients.

“We are also thrilled that we have received such positive feedback from our clients during the research period and that so many of our lawyers and teams have been recommended.”

This prestigious recognition reflects the firm’s commitment to delivering exceptional client service, innovative legal solutions, and maintaining high standards across our diverse practice areas. The rankings showcase its expertise and reputation within the legal profession and the wider business community.

The Legal 500, renowned for its comprehensive research programme that assesses law firms globally across 150 jurisdictions, has ranked Wollens in the following key areas of expertise:

  • Corporate and Commercial
  • Licensing
  • Commercial Litigation
  • Employment
  • Family
  • Clinical Negligence
  • Contentious Trusts and Probate
  • Commercial Property
  • Personal Tax, Trusts and Probate
  • Sport

Wollens are a carbon neutral firm and have reduced their carbon footprint by 51 per cent since 2019 exceeding government targets and offer comprehensive experience and credibility in the renewables sector. An Environmental, Social and Governance award from Lawnet in 2023/24 and a Sustainability Award from the Devon and Somerset Law Society last year were particularly befitting.

Wollens said: "Wollens were delighted to be awarded the ESG Initiative Award at the national LawNet Ltd annual awards.

“At Wollens we believe that sustainability is fundamental to the long-term success of our business and the communities we are a part of.  We are committed to actively engaging and demonstrating our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.”

To crown an epic awards period, CEO Chris Hart has also been named as a Leading Partner in the 2025 Legal 500 directory.

Wollens say: “Chris’s leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to the firm have played a pivotal role in our continued success and growth.”

Oh, and by the way, Wollens are hoping to add another trophy to that cabinet after being shortlisted as a finalist in the Greener Futures Award category for this year’s Torbay Weekly Business Awards!
