Christmas has well and truly arrived in Torbay - to shine a light on a new future.
Christmas has well and truly arrived in Torbay - to shine a light on a new future.
It was switch-on time for the Bay of Lights as thousands of people flocked to Torquay seafront where they also witnessed a piece of history.
The Bay of Lights 2024 also signalled the reopening of The Strand and the completion of the first major regeneration project under Torquay's Town Deal initiative with a new look promenade and harbour walkway.
The trail lit up the seafront from the inner harbour to Torre Abbey - where people were treated to an extra special lights show and Christmas market - and beyond.
Paignton and the Dartmouth Steam Railway's now world famous Train of Lights - pictured here by Brixham photographer Chris Slack - is already on track and we have already had 'Lanterns, lights and lluminations' at Brixham
Bay mayor Hannah Stevens was there to kick-start the Yuletide celebrations with some of these pictures. She said: "Last night I had the honour of switching on the Bay of Lights! It was a fantastic evening of music and festive cheer. It was also coupled with the opening of the newly refurbished Strand. The mapping at Torre Abbey was fantastic and the market there was brilliant."
Torbay councillor and English Riviera BID Tourism Company director Martin Brook also captured the moment with photos and said: "What a fabulous evening enjoying the Bay of Lights Illuminations Trail… starting from the revamped Strand at Torquay Harbour up to Torre Abbey and it’s spectacular light show, drinks, and food."
