Torquay trip to Taunton called off
orquay United’s National League South derby at Taunton Town has been postponed, for a second time.
The announcement came after the Peacocks called a ‘precautionary’ pitch inspection at Wordsworth Drive at 1.30pm, following heavy early morning rain.
No more rain was forecast for the rest of the day, but Taunton announced that the game had been called off just before 2pm.
The original fixture had to be postponed because Town had to play a rearranged FA Trophy tie at Welling United recently.
The latest postponement will be a frustration for United fans who had sold out their 750-ticket allocation.
But from a football point of view, neither club may be too devastated.
Although second-placed Torquay were hoping to record a fifth successive league win, and a sixth in all competitions, they are still carrying a long injury list.
And Taunton are in a lean spell of one win in nine matches, including a 3-0 defeat at lowly Havant & Waterlooville at the weekend.
