Classic car exhibition
Car exhibition with a difference
The last major event of the 2023 calendar year for classic cars is held at the NEC close to Birmingham on November 10-12.
This fully covered indoor event is easily accessed by train direct to the NEC station and a covered walkway to the show halls. It is, in many ways, how the old Earls Court Motor shows used to be with dealer display stands of every kind of classic from British, American and classic bikes, plus a live classic car auction held in the hall. That in itself is an amazing spectacle and you will be shocked at the prices that these gems go under the hammer.
As usual, my old firm Hurst Park Automobiles holds centre stage with a good selection of their current offerings, including Jaguar E Types, Mercedes SL’s and MG’s, with rare V8 versions.
Hurst Park evolved at Hampton Court in the 1950s as main dealers for Renault and later for Rootes Group, including Humber, Hillman, Singer and Sunbeam. Then, in the 1960s, as main dealers for Jensen and Rover until the 1970s. Thereafter becoming one of the county’s leading and best known classic car specialists. Their reputation as a trusted family business is second to none. And I should know!
The last day of a classic car show can also be the time to snap up a bargain, as many of the dealers will be glad to save the car transport back and may be particularly keen to do business if the show was not that successful for them. Have an open mind and an open cheque book is my advice. Nothing tempts a seller more than an imminent deal.
If you are a first-time enthusiast, there are experts on hand to guide you through the process of becoming a classic car owner and most of the car clubs are represented, along with 350 exhibitor stands and an autojumble.
Train times are around three hours from Exeter and will be cheaper than taking the car with fuel and car parking fees, plus you can enjoy a meal at the show with a drink.
