Joshua Taylor shines on international debut

Sprint hurdles specialist Joshua Taylor, who is coached in Exeter Lee Farleigh, has taken a surprise silver medal on his International debut at the Welsh International in Cardiff.
The Torquay-based 16 year-old, competing for England U18s, found himself up against U20 athletes and the U20 hurdles spec. Josh had a clean start to hurdle one, setting him up nicely for the remaining nine, crossing the finish line in 14.56, just 0.1 of a second behind Henry Curtis (England U20), and finishing well ahead of Zane Mcqillan (N Ireland U20).
"This was an opportunity like no other, and I couldn't have done it without the help of friends, family and coaches,” said Josh. “Competing for a country is an experience not many can say they have done, which is why it makes this moment so special to me.
“Through all the times of heart aching losses and glorious moments of victories; it has all lead to this stage in my life where I can now call myself an international athlete. During my journey with the England team, I have made many new connections with people I had never known before, which made the experience a lot more exciting.
“I was thankful to medal at my debut running for England but what also added to the day was my time being ranked 11th in the UK within the U20 category, while still being only an U17.
“I would like to thank not only my parents for all the expenses and support they have given me, but a big thank you to the Exeter coaches and Team managers for the guidance/coaching they have granted me on my athletics pathway, as I wouldn't be in the position I am now if it wasn't for their aid."
