One of Torbay’s best known church leaders, the Rev David Coffey, has published his new book Around the World in 80 Ways this week.

David, the former senior pastor at Upton Vale Baptist Church in Torquay, has written a very honest, personal and authentic memoir of his global travels, the people he has encountered and his enduring Christian faith.
He arrived in Torquay in September 1980 and played a leading part in the life of Upton Vale as well as the wider community.
In 1988 he was appointed the Baptist Union of Great Britain’s Director of Evangelism and moved to Didcot in Oxfordshire. Three years later he became the Baptist Union’s General Secretary, a post he held for 15 years and one which gained him worldwide recognition.
This led to him becoming President of the Baptist World Alliance in 2005. The BWA is a vibrant network of 52 million Baptists in 128 countries. This leadership role involved him in global travels to over 80 countries teaching the bible and mentoring younger leaders.
David is passionate to preserve religious liberty and he led human rights delegations to Vietnam, China and the former Soviet Union.
On his retirement in 2010 he and his wife Janet moved back to Torbay and they now reside in Marldon, but David is still an active preacher throughout Devon and further afield and only recently was speaking at conferences in Huddersfield and Oxford.
Around the World in 80 Ways in available from Waterstones and through Amazon price £11.99.
