Torbay schoolgirl Elizabeth Cheesman has landed a national title.

She has won the Rotary Young Writer Competition in the junior age group.

Although now a pupil at Churston Ferrers Grammar School she entered the competition whilst attending Preston Primary.

The Rotary Club of Preston has forged close links with the school and it was through this association and support by the head teacher and staff that many pupils from this school entered the competition. Pupils from other local primary schools with which the club has links also entered. After winning the club competition Elizabeth’s entry went forward to the District round and after further success, she secured ultimate victory in the national final.

The aim of the Rotary Young Writer competition is to encourage young people to produce a piece of writing which can be fiction, non-fiction, prose or poetry using their creativity and imagination. The theme for Young Writer was ‘Connections’.
