With all the reports in the media about demand for property in South Devon due to inward migration from the big cities, it is easy to forget the local first-time buyers saving to get on the property market, says a Torbay estate agent.
James Lofthouse, who manages Bettesworths residential, says demand from those local first-time buyers continues to be strong, with a number of recently completed sales, ongoing transactions and registered first-time buyers looking to have bought a property before the end of the year.
James, who despite being in his late 20s, has more than ten years of experience in property sales in Torbay.
Bettesworths, one of Torbay’s longest-established estate agents, deal with a wide range of properties from first-time buyers' homes to multi-million pound properties, and has built up a trusted network of professionals with a view to making the daunting experience of buying your first home as straightforward as possible.
These contacts include mortgage providers, brokers and solicitors who are sympathetic to the extra assistance often needed when dealing with inexperienced buyers.
The latest first-time buyer to complete their purchase is Hannah Schofield, of Torquay, who proudly received her keys to her new home from James Lofthouse last Friday.
Hannah, who had saved a deposit while living at home, said: “It was a great experience dealing with James, who was there to help me all the way through the process.

"Having someone of a similar age who had been through the process as a first-time buyer and as an estate agent provided me with confidence and reassurance to be able to deal with other professionals such as my solicitor, resulting in the successful completion of the sale.
"I am so excited about moving into my new home, a ground floor apartment with its own garden.”
Lucy Ling, a member of the Bettesworths team, has recently completed the purchase of her first home, a three-bedroom, terrace house which she and fiancée Sam are decorating to their own tastes to make the house a home.
Lucy said: “Working for Bettesworths helped me understand the process, and having James’ assistance on hand was invaluable.“
Bettesworths have a number of first-time buyers registered who want to be in their first home before the end of the year.
Requirements include one- or two-bedroom flats in low-rise buildings as well as two- or three-bedroom houses in Torquay and Paignton.
