Rowcroft’s Ella’s Café Lounge and Boutique is one of Torbay’s hidden gems.
Nestling in Walnut Road, Chelston, the exquisite café and boutique offers a stunning range of pre-loved fashion, as well as a delicious selection of brunches, light meals, treats and refreshments.
In its sizzling summer promotion, the café treats you to a tasty ‘graze board’ for two or a shared artisan pizza plus two glasses of wine (or non-alcoholic alternatives) – all for just £10. What’s not to love?!
“Come and enjoy brunch, lunch or coffee and cake, and good vibes in our beautiful space,” said Diane Hargreaves, Manager of Ella’s Café Lounge and Boutique. “Our delicious salads are made fresh every day and are at the heart of our menu. We offer everything from fresh fruit ice-cream milkshake to perfect pizzas and sourdough sandwiches.”
Named in honour of the hospice’s founder Ella Rowcroft, the café's popular brunch dishes include crushed avocado on sourdough bread, breakfast tortilla and American pancakes. For lunch, there’s artisan pizza, scrumptious salad, deep-filled locally made quiche and salad, falafel wrap, jacket potatoes, and a choice of tasty toasties and sandwiches.
Plus, there’s a delightful selection of home-baked cakes and treats. The café's philosophy is to serve high quality food at great prices.
“It's a fantastic way to treat yourself and a friend to a wonderful time,” added Diane. “And it’s a brilliant way to support the hospice as all proceeds from your purchases are used to provide care for patients with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon. We’re so grateful to our wonderful local community for supporting us.”
Ella’s Café Lounge and Boutique is open Mondays to Saturdays 9am to 4.30pm, and is operating in line with COVID-secure guidance to keep customers, staff and volunteers safe. In addition to the gorgeous range of preloved clothing, the boutique also stocks a variety of new goods and homeware.

It takes time, compassion, medical expertise and money to help patients and families make the most of every day, but every year Rowcroft Hospice helps almost 2,500 people living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon to do just that.
By providing comfort, support and specialist services in patients’ homes, the community and at Rowcroft’s Inpatient Unit in Torquay, the hospice enables families to share precious and joyful moments when they are needed most – whether it’s a beautiful wedding, remarkable reunion, a simple thank-you or gentle cuddle.
At Rowcroft’s premises in Torquay, the hospice’s team of doctors, nurses, social workers and a range of other health and social care professionals provide specialist care in its Inpatient Unit. Rowcroft also cares for out-patients and their loved ones, offering therapies, bereavement support and medical consultation in an environment that helps patients and families make the most of precious time together.
From Dartmouth to Dawlish, Rowcroft cares for 80% of its patients in their own homes with a team of community nurse specialists, social workers, and bereavement volunteers. The team also provides occupational therapy, complementary therapy and music therapy, delivering a holistic approach tailored to individual needs.
Last year it cost £8.8 million to provide Rowcroft’s services. As an independent charity, around 75% of its funding comes from the incredible generosity of local people, without whom Rowcroft would not be able to fund its work. Rowcroft is determined to make sure every penny raised from people’s donations continues to help patients and their loved ones make the most of every moment they have together.
