A leading councillor has praised the people of Torbay for their part in the Battle of the Pandemic.

Robert Loxton, leader of the independent Group, spoke out as the coalition now running the Town Hall outlined their budget for the coming year.

Cllr Loxton said: “This is my second budget. 12 months on from the last budget I cannot believe that we are in the middle of a war - the battle with Covid 19 which has affected the community of Torbay in many ways.

“Sadly, there has been the loss of life of over 100 people in the Bay and we send our condolences to their loved ones and friends. The many who are suffering long term ill effects from Covid-19 we wish them a speedy recovery.”

He added: “The community of Torbay have been absolutely fantastic in washing hands wearing masks and keeping distance from others to keep the infection and death toll down.”

He thanked The Torbay Community Development Trust for all their hard work together with the community partnerships who have been ‘the lifeline to many people’ - some who have not left their home since last March.
